Another month, another member to add to our growing list of people who've won our employee of the month title more than once. Our employee of the month for September is our Senior Content Specialist / Technical Product Lead, Jack Adams!
"Jack embodies the phrase "going above and beyond." Over the last few months, he's supported both the Blue and SEO teams by stepping in to conduct incredibly in-depth analysis for our clients, created amazing insights decks and been on-hand to support both new and established CTM-ers as a soundboard and all-around font of knowledge. He's a credit to ClickThrough and one of the most reliable and genuine people we're lucky enough to have in our department.
He’s a true unsung hero and deserves the recognition."
We chatted to Jack in his last employee-of-the-month interview in March. This time we caught up with him about how his role at ClickThrough has changed, his experience of being a second-time CTM-er and much more.
SINCE THE LAST TIME WE SPOKE TO YOU, AS A SENIOR CONTENT SPECIALIST, YOU’VE STEPPED INTO A NEW ROLE. CAN YOU TELL US MORE ABOUT IT?
Yes, so my day-to-day hasn't changed massively. I'm still very much guiding content strategies for our clients, whether that's through delving deep into performance and competitor analyses or ideating creatively with the rest of the team. And I'm heavily involved in putting those strategies into action.
However, in July, I also became Technical Product Lead. Here, I head up a cross-channel team responsible for developing technical products, processes and services for ClickThrough. Ultimately, it's about expanding our knowledge and strengthening what we can do from a technical POV to help our clients achieve their goals.
THIS IS ACTUALLY YOUR SECOND TIME AROUND AT CLICKTHROUGH! CAN YOU TELL US WHY YOU CAME BACK TO JOIN THE TEAM?
ClickThrough is the place that gave me my start in digital marketing. The knowledge I gained in the four years I spent here during the early 2010s has been absolutely invaluable. It set me up to navigate the worlds of content and SEO. So, when the opportunity arose to come back after seven years in-house, it was a no-brainer. I'm always keen to learn - working with the many talented and generous people we have at this agency provides the perfect environment in which to do that.
SPEAKING OF SECONDS, THIS IS YOUR SECOND EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH WIN THIS YEAR! HOW DOES IT FEEL TO BE DOUBLY RECOGNISED?
I was definitely taken aback. There's loads of great work going on around the agency, with lots of talented people behind it - we're definitely not short of worthy winners! So, it's always fantastic to be recognised by your colleagues in such a strong field.
YOUR LAST EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH VOUCHER HELPED EXPAND YOUR VINYL COLLECTION. HAS IT GONE ON RECORDS THIS TIME TOO?
No, not this time. I've had my eye on a Raiders of the Lost Ark Lego set, so it's gone towards that. It's basically a diorama recreating the opening sequence of the movie - where Indiana Jones goes to claim the Golden Idol. I loved Indy as a kid, and Raiders is still a favourite. Plus, I've found those adult Lego sets to be equal parts destressing and rewarding (if on occasion infuriating).
IF YOU WERE GIVEN THE OPPORTUNITY TO CHANGE SPECIALISMS AND MOVE TO A NEW CHANNEL, WHICH WOULD YOU CHOOSE, AND WHY?
I'd go into design. It goes hand-in-hand with content - thinking about the presentation as well as the substance of the work you’ve created. Many content metrics, such as bounce rate, engagement and time spent on the page, are heavily influenced by the way the work is displayed. You could have the most fantastic Pulitzer Prize-winning feature story, but if it's not visually appealing, particularly in the mobile age, sadly it's less likely to retain people’s attention. It's certainly something I'm keen to push on with.
IF YOU COULD GIVE ONE PIECE OF ADVICE FOR ANYONE LOOKING TO GO INTO CONTENT MARKETING, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
Be a sponge! Soak up all the information, knowledge and inspiration you can - whether it’s from conversations, books, articles, films, TV shows, podcasts, music, art, adverts, etc. It’s all invaluable in honing your craft, generating ideas and thinking creatively. Ultimately, it’ll help drive you forward in this fascinating field.
