In January 2004, Phil Robinson founded ClickThrough Marketing to deliver best-practice digital marketing solutions. His vision: To become a leading provider of digital marketing technologies and services in the UK.
At that time, ClickThrough had only one employee – Lisa McLaren, who is now director of finance and HR. By April 2006 there were twice as many staff, we’d launched our free-to-attend webinars (which developed into our digital academy), won the SEO account for Wolseley – the FTSE 100-listed multinational building materials distribution company – and moved to larger premises at the Lichfield Business Village.
Things were moving fast. Two years after our office relocation, we moved again to accommodate new staff and new work. By this point, we’d won clients like DeVono, Cookson Precious Metals and Norgren, and had eight employees.
2009 was a big year. We welcomed Peugeot on board as a client in June, launched our phone call tracking service in August, and were featured in Econsultancy’s first ever SEO Agencies Buyers’ Guide in October.
Dr Dave Chaffey, a leading authority on best-practice digital marketing, joined ClickThrough as insights director in January 2010. By March we had 18 employees, and had published our books on search engine optimisation and pay per click marketing. By the end of the year, we’d put together our in-house content team, run our first web analytics boot camp for staff, launched an internship program and welcomed Zoe O’Neil to the ClickThrough family, who now oversees our PPC services as paid search director. In November 2010, we were featured in Econsultancy’s SEO Agencies Buyers’ Guide for the second year running.
Nectar, the UK’s largest loyalty company, joined us as a client in May 2011. By this time, we had 24 employees, and had launched ContentVOX, our news and blog writing service. This year, we said hello to Peter Phillpot, director of SEO, and won the accounts for Dunelm Mill, Evander, Grosvenor London and Selco. We worked with Comic Relief on Red Nose Day 2011, too – and we’ve helped them out several times since.
2012 was a year of wedding bells and client wins. Two of our account directors tied the knot, and we welcomed The Healthcounter, ScottishPower, Solmar Villas, and Link51 as search marketing clients. We were featured in Econsultancy’s third SEO Agencies Buyers’ Guide and the Recommended Agencies Register Top 100 Agencies Outside of London. We founded our web development team. We launched BidCops, our PPC reporting tool. We did a lot, and to top it all off, we held a splash-tastic Christmas party at the Alton Towers waterpark.
We’ve come a long way. And we’re not stopping yet. Our graduate recruitment programme has been a great success, helping to start the careers of many talented young marketers, and we continue to innovate with new services as the digital landscape shifts and evolves.
