Microsoft’s search engine Bing has launched a new feature for the iPhone that lets consumers search for products using their keyboard, camera or voice.
Writing on the site’s official blog, Andy Chu of Bing for Mobile said clicking the app’s Shopping section takes users to a range of product categories they can tap though manually.
Alternatively, they can type in or say the specific items they are looking for.
If they are already in a store and want more information about the goods on display, they can use the iPhone’s camera to scan its barcode.
Users can then sort through search results by relevance and price, as well as by expert and user ratings.
Clicking on a particular item will take them to product details and a direct link to the seller’s website.
“As our mobile devices become more important to our everyday lives, we hope that the Bing for Mobile iPhone app’s shopping features will help you make decisions on the go easier,” Mr Chu wrote.
In related news, Gordon Borrell of research specialist Borrell Associates recently said that the growing use of smartphones could see mobile overtake desktop internet as the dominant channel in search engine marketing.
