Companies tailoring their search engine marketing campaigns to target Bing users may want to renew their focus on location.

In its latest update of the Bing for Mobile app, designed for smartphone users running BlackBerry OS6, Microsoft has added a "What's Nearby" option.

This offers suggestions of local facilities including movies, restaurants and weather reports.

For companies targeting a local audience via Bing, the new mobile app could have a bearing on search engine marketing activities.

It is not only BlackBerry OS6 users who can access the new features; the app is also an upgrade for OS5 users.

Other additions in the new version, detailed on the Bing Community blog, include image search and a facility to update on flight times for airport travellers.

Media firms may also be interested in location-specific services, as Sally Liu, program manager for Bing, previously wrote on the blog that the search engine is now providing local television listings to its users.
