This assertion was drawn from the fact that, in July 2009, more than 113 billion searches were conducted.
In light of these figures, the importance of ranking at the top of search results in order to yield a clickthrough when their site appears following a user’s query may perhaps become clearer.
By improving rankings, greater numbers of visitors to web pages can be expected.
Organic search optimisation in particular was suggested as a means of enhancing the performance of a site, as it is seen as more "trustworthy" than when appearing within paid results.
A previous report from travel industry website TravelMole and Frommer’s Unlimited stressed the importance of search marketing, as 84 per cent of respondents identified the avenue as their most important promotional strategy at present.
