Read moreWhy are infographics important? And what are the benefits of including them in your SEO strategy? Our content expert, Sophie Hillier, talks us through the importance of infographics in SEO - from outreach opportunities to boosting brand awareness.
Visual, creative and educational – these are just a few of the benefits of infographics. Unfortunately, creative assets can take a backseat in many content strategies for a number of reasons. They take longer than blog posts, you need to get the branding right and outsourcing design can be frustrating. But this doesn’t mean that they won’t benefit your content, and your wider SEO strategy. I’ll talk you through the importance of infographics in SEO, five of their benefits and how to optimise them for SEO value, below.
Let’s start simple: why are infographics important? It’s all to do with conveying information in the best way possible. If you’d like to share statistics that promote a certain campaign or product, the impact can be lost if they aren’t published in the right way. For example, a blog post or eBook is great for delving deep into topics when consumers are further down the marketing funnel, so when the intent to buy is there but they just require a little more research.
Now where an infographic comes into its own is at the top of the funnel. Eye-catching and aesthetically pleasing, infographics are a great way to grab the attention of potential customers. Perfect for those who don’t have much time on their hands, an infographic can break down complex data or information into easily digestible bite-size chunks.
Socially shareable. Due to the easily consumable nature of infographics, they are perfect for sharing across multiple social media platforms. And this doesn’t just mean your own channels, because if it’s relevant to other brands and companies, they can share it too!
Top tip! Ask your designer to create snippets of the infographic so you can use them for social cards on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
Outreach opportunities. High quality, informative infographics also create a number of outreach opportunities. Like our top tip above, an infographic with multiple pieces of fresh information (such as graphs, charts and statistics) can be used in several different long-form articles – making it more attractive to the brands in your outreach strategy.
Boosts brand awareness. A combination of the two previous points ends up in an increased level of brand awareness. If the purpose of your infographic is to share information about your brand, an infographic is ideal for showcasing what it is all about - from values and results to image.
Highlight your expertise. If you want to establish your brand as an authority on a certain topic or area, an infographic showcasing your original research is the ideal opportunity. Not only does this enhance your credibility in the industry, but you’ll also be seen as an authority in the eyes of Google – helping to boost organic performance even further.
Strengthens your SEO strategy. And finally, all of the above helps to strengthen your SEO strategy. You’ve increased your brand awareness and shared the infographic on a number of social channels, which all helps to improve the volume of traffic to your site – and therefore increase your rankings within the SERPs. To help boost this further, make sure your infographic is optimised for SEO value, by using relevant keywords.
