Advertisers planning to focus their internet marketing services towards mobile users this year may be interested in the news that smartphones will make up over half the market by 2012.
According to research conducted by In-Stat, the gadgets will be responsible for over 50 per cent of sales in the US and will have shipped nearly a billion units worldwide by 2015.
Principal analyst at the group Allen Nogee explained that there are several factors that have contributed to the rising demand for the products.
"These include a powerful browser, a wide variety of apps, an easy to navigate user interface, and a good keyboard or touch screen," he said, noting that being fashionable is a major consideration for many people.
It was recently revealed by ForeSee that almost a third of people had used their internet-enabled phone to engage with marketing services, with another 32 per cent saying they planned to do so in the future.
