Add a new badge to FourSquare and you could find your venue making the headlines, as the Jewel Bar in Piccadilly discovered last night.
300 FourSquare users all headed for the Bar specifically with the intention of gaining an all-new shiny badge – the UK Super Swarm badge. Whilst it may seem nerdy, there is no doubt that if each of them only bought one drink, that will show in the takings for that bar. Even if only 1 of those people returns, because they liked the ambience, the food or the cocktails, then there is a return visit generated from FourSquare.
Whilst some businesses are still struggling to develop a social media strategy, others are diving in headfirst it seems, particularly in towns and cities where footfall from social media marketing can be more noticeable. However, it is perhaps in rural areas where businesses should be jumping on the opportunities offered by FourSquare and other similar geo-location tools at this point in time. Why? A grave lack of competition!
Our recent white paper on location based and geolocation marketing looks at the benefits of using these apps and services for marketing for any business. Have you already got involved with this type of mobile marketing? What are your experiences? What are your questions about how to use it? Or are you a user of Gowalla, Foursquare or a similar services.
