Google has announced that US and Canadian marketers can now access a new AdWords tool that enables them to design their own display ads.

According to a post on the Inside AdWords blog, the application allows advertisers to create their own ads without hiring a designer.

Users can place their own text, images and logos within the ads, as well as amend colour schemes and backgrounds.

The ads can fit all of the possible Google content network placements, including those in videos and games.

"If you’ve wanted to expand beyond your text ad campaigns, or if you’ve been looking for an easier way to build display ads, this tool can help," commented Trevor Claiborne of the Inside AdWords team.

Spending on internet display ads in the UK rose by 16.3 per cent in the first half of 2008 to reach £333.8 million, according to a recent report published by the Internet Advertising Bureau.
