Google is the most visited property among internet users in the Asia-Pacific region, according to new research from comScore.

In news that may be of interest to search engine marketing users looking to target this rapidly developing area, the analyst said Google sites attracted 270 million unique visitors during May – 55 per cent of the online audience.

Microsoft sites were in second place with 218.5 million visitors, while Yahoo! sites attracted 205 million people across the region.

Chinese language internet search provider was the fourth most popular online property with 177 million unique users during May.

Tencent, which claims to be China’s largest and most used online service portal, came fifth with 174 million visitors.

Will Hodgman of comScore said: "Home to nearly half of the world’s online population, the Asia-Pacific region represents a wealth of opportunity for both local and global brands in the digital media space."

He added that companies not using online marketing services to target these consumers are "missing a significant opportunity to reach and engage audiences".
