Small and medium-sized firms may find that implementing a search engine marketing strategy aimed at mobile devices can be a cost-effective way to grow their business.

This is according to Jon Mew, director of mobile and operations at the Internet Advertising Bureau, who stated that this area makes up the majority of mobile advertising and smaller companies are in a great position to use it to their advantage.

He added that apps will also be a major sector in which enterprises should focus, as this is an area of large growth for the sector.

"It's a key route for advertising – consumers want free apps and they're only going to get those through advertising, so it will play a key part in the apps that people want," Mr Mew stated.

Recently, it was reported by the New York Times that a new smartphone product called Aurasma, to be launched next month, will allow marketers to take advantage of 'augmented reality' features by superimposing images onto real-world objects displayed on smartphone screens.
