Mobile web usage via Opera Mini has risen significantly over the last 12 months, according to a new report from the organisation.

It shows that usage was up 157 per cent year-on-year in March and 12.1 per cent compared to February.

More than 23 million people were using Opera Mini to view more than 8.6 billion mobile web pages last month, the report reveals.

It states that page views have risen by 255 per cent over the last year, making mobile internet marketing an increasingly significant area for web advertisers.

Jon von Tetzchner, chief executive of Opera Mini, said: "A mobile phone will be the device most people use to access the web."

However, research carried our recently by IT and business services company Logica revealed that 42 per cent of mobile web users believe mobile advertising is "relevant to no-one".

This means mobile internet marketing teams may need to target their ads more effectively in order to reach the right audiences.
