Mobile search engine optimisation strategies could prove to be the path to online success for some companies as new research shows that usage of mobile search is on the rise.
According to the latest Digital Media Index from mobile operator Orange, customers of the company carried out 30 per cent more searches from their handsets between July and September compared with the period between November 2007 and January 2008.
Furthermore, local searches surged by 100 per cent, while take-up of mobile social networking was also found to be on the rise.
"Mobile is no longer simply a channel for brands to deliver packaged content in a manner of their choosing," said director of products, portals and services for Orange Paul Jevons.
"Instead, the mobile phone has become a truly interactive channel."
Overall UK usage of mobile search rose by 36 per cent in the 12 months to July, according to comScore.
