Websites set to revise ad partnership in search engine marketing

By ClickThrough Marketing | November 4, 2008

Google and Yahoo! have revised a proposed deal which would let the former sell search engine advertising on the behalf of the latter, it has been reported.

The revised terms of the deal, the partnership would be shortened to two years, from as many as ten, a source who did not wish to be identified said.

Furthermore, website marketing professionals may be interested to hear that the amount Yahoo! could earn from adverts placed by Google would be capped at a total of 25 per cent of Yahoo!’s search engine advertising revenue, the person continued.

Prior to this, Yahoo! had the discretion to decide the amount of its search ads to give to Google.

The two firms submitted the new proposal to the US justice department over the weekend – and it remains unclear whether the scaling back will be sufficient enough to satisfy antitrust investigators.

Representatives from both of the search engines declined to comment on the new proposals.

In recent days, Yahoo! announced a coalition with Microsoft, the Western Union and the African Development Bank to help victims of lottery scams to upload police reports.
