Pay per click marketers are set to use a new service by Yahoo! that will allow their adverts to be targeted at specific US zip codes.

Including the function to zoom in on cities, states or provinces to make a more detailed selection, the search will also enable businesses to make adverts appear whenever users make the relevant search.

Kastle Waserman, Communications Manager at Yahoo!, said on the company’s Search Marketing blog that it is crucial for businesses to know who and where they are directing their advertising towards, when carrying out online marketing.

She added: "Knowing your ads show up for the right people in the right places is crucial, especially when your business only caters to a specific area."

The news comes as Google and Yahoo! have announced a delay in the start of an ad-sharing deal that was due to start on October 22nd.

The legality of the deal is currently being investigated by the USA department of justice.
