Yahoo! has launched its new branding campaign by ‘taking over’ its own front page with a video ad highlighting its services.

The clip opens on the front door of a virtual house, which invites viewers to "come in and make yourself at home".

When clicked, the entire front page gives way to a room featuring different Yahoo! pages on each wall, including finance, entertainment and sport.

It also highlights Yahoo! Mail, the most popular web-based email in the US.

Writing on the Yahoo! Search Marketing Blog, Chris Marlowe said the message behind the ad is Yahoo! is "the one place that brings together your world with the world".

He added that the front page "take over" is just one element of a branding exercise that will additionally promote the company’s online marketing services for firms looking to boost their profile on the web.

According to comScore, Yahoo! sites accounted for 18.3 per cent of the US search market in May, handling 2.9 billion user queries.
