With the introduction of Facebook's messaging system last week, many internet marketing services providers may be wondering what benefits the feature can offer to them.

This is why Econsultancy's Tink Taylor has come up with a few key things every online advertiser should know about the product.

He stated there were potential new opportunities available to email and mobile marketers looking to integrate their services into social media and SMS services.

A good strategy for combining social and email campaigns "could achieve some impressive results", the analyst said.

However, advertisers were warned they need to work even harder to ensure messages reached their intended targets, as the Facebook interface could send much more mail to the 'junk' folder than other services, so marketers may need new ideas to ensure their products are delivered.

The company has claimed the new approach to online messaging could make traditional email functions obsolete, with Joel Seligstein saying the system was intended to make online communication "feel more like a human conversation".
