Despite being in its infancy, Google+ has already got a confirmed figure of 10 million users; and although it has been promised that Google+ business pages would be made available in the coming months, many have jumped at the chance to get on this latest social media marketing bandwagon early.

Google, though, has now taken the unprecedented step of closing many of these accounts down, leaving a long wait until the platform officially launches its Brand Pages – expected sometime this autumn.

Search Engine Watch has created five tips to help prepare marketers for the eventual official launch of Google+ Brand Pages.

The key tips to consider, then, are:

  • Undertake community research: If there are a number of key brand influencers that you have, check to see if they’re already utilising Google+. It’s a waste of time and money focusing your efforts on a platform where your key influencers are nowhere to be seen.
  • Try it yourself: Rather than being one of those marketing professionals that report on social media without actually engaging in it, immerse yourself into the Google+ community. This will allow for you to become accustomed with all the new features and small additions that the platform will undoubtedly have to offer.
  • Come up with a strategy: A plan that answers the following questions is suggested – What are the potential ways to communicate in this channel? How is the platform different to other social media platforms? What is your target audience going to expect from the channel?
