Expected by many to be one of the social media marketing platforms to grow in the near future, Foursquare have announced the launch of Foursquare Radar, according to an article published by New Media Age.
The newly launched Radar, an updated version of a previous feature, will work to provide users with alerts when in the vicinity of an area of interest – regardless of whether the application is open or not.
NMA, providing an example scenario, state that users of the feature can follow lists, such as Best Dishes 2011; the app will then subsequently alert users when they are near a restaurant serving the dishes featured on that list.
A blog post announcing the update stated: “The app doesn’t even have to be open, it just works. We call it Foursquare Radar, because it finds things nearby that you normally wouldn’t know about.”
