American baker and coffee-house, Dunkin’ Donuts are to set to launch a new social media marketing campaign to mark the start of 2012, according to an article published by the Sacramento Bee.

The campaign takes the form of a contest on Twitter, where users will be able to compete for the chance to win a $50 Dunkin’ Donuts Card.

To participate, users are simply required to tweet the official Dunkin’ Donuts Twitter account – @DunkinDonuts – sharing one smart choice they’ll be making during 2012 to keep themselves going strong throughout the year.

When tweeting, participants are also required to feature the hashtag #DDSMARTY at the end of their tweet.

The campaign is being used to promote the brand’s new DDSMART menu – aimed at those looking for a lower calorie option.

Stan Frankenthaler, Dunkin’ Donuts’ executive chief and vice president of product innovation, commented on the promotion.

He said: “We remain committed to providing delicious menu choices to help keep people running all throughout the year, and look forward to Americans participating in our Twitter contest.”

The DDSMART contest is set to end on Friday (January 6).
