The past two years have been a success for internet marketers as a new study reveals that more people than ever are shopping online.
The survey, put together by Neilsen Online, revealed that during the period online shopping had seen an increase of 40 per cent and that an estimated 80 per cent of web users shopped online during last year.
Commenting on the report, vice-president of customised research for Nielsen Online Bruce Paul said that marketers and retailers would be able to see the importance of having an online presence.
"If shopping sites can capture [web users] early and create a positive shopping experience, they will likely capture their loyalty and their money," he advised.
It was noted by the research that the highest-performing market was Japan, which had the highest concentration of shoppers with 97 per cent of internet users making an online purchase during 2007 – although the UK and Germany scored the same percentage.
