Google has updated its AdSense service to include a number of changes to the way referrals are made, according to BizReport.
The website states that the search engine’s customers in North America, Latin America and Japan will now be the only ones able to use the AdSense referral program – which Helen Leggatt claims could have a negative impact on other user’s revenues.
In an article for the site, Ms Leggatt states that Google made no warning about the changes and that the whole referral program across the globe will now undergo some drastic alterations that will leave some unlucky marketers out of pocket.
"Those lucky enough to be in the right countries will see the AdSense referral pricing structures change, but the program will not be scrapped," she said.
She adds that the announcement, which was made this week on the search engine’s official blog, was being revised in this way due to the fact that the company believes that the "referral product has not performed as well as we had hoped in these regions".
Darren Rowse of ProBlogger, who is an AdSense user in Australiacomma noted that he will now be unable to benefit from referrals despite having a predominantly US-based audience.
