Blinkx is applying the finishing touches to an search engine marketing platform for web-based video, it has emerged.
Codenamed Project Trilby will be launched on Monday as blinkx AdHoc, Business 2.0 reports. The new service will allow producers to index their clips via blinkx so that targeted ads can be triggered when they are viewed.
The video search engine will allow producers to display ads as pre-roll, mid-roll, post-roll, banner or crawling video ‘bugs’.
Chief executive of blinkx Suranga Chandratillake said that video search engine marketing requires something "akin to AdSense", adding that the company believes that it has built just that.
Mr Chandratillake formed blinkx in 2004, marketing itself as "the remote control for the video web".
To deliver multimedia search results, blinkx uses a blend of patented conceptual search, speech recognition and video analysis software. The firm now claims to be able to bring more content from a wider range of sources than Google or Yahoo!.
