Yahoo! has officially entered the web analytics market with the beta release of a new service stemming from the acquisition of IndexTools in May.
Website owners can use Yahoo! Web Analytics to analyse their online marketing success rates and view metrics such as sources of traffic, pages views and sales, according to a post on the Yodel Anecdotal blog.
Users can also create custom graphics and reports to view these metrics in visual format.
Yahoo! Web Analytics will undergo a phased launch throughout the remainder of this year and 2009, with Yahoo! Small Business customers already able to make use of the service.
"Nothing is worse for site owners – and consumers – than bad marketing or a lousy user experience. Here’s an easy tool designed to combat them – and fast," stated vice-president of Yahoo! Web Analytics Jitendra Kavathekar.
According to a Marketing Direct column by Neil Morgan of Omniture, web analytics tools are likely to become particularly important to those engaging in mobile marketing as they can offer data relevant to ensuring websites are compatible with specific handsets and browsers, for example.
