Firms offering products and services online should keep an eye out for lesser-known national events that could help them boost their sales through targeted internet marketing campaigns.

This is the advice of Colin Kingston, listings editor for the Yahoo! Search Marketing blog, who said in a post that unconventional events and national days could be extremely beneficial to certain companies.

He used the example of some US national holidays, such as National Bathroom Reading Month and Superman Week, which could open up some great marketing opportunities for book sellers and comic book retailers, for example.

In the UK, lesser-known events include National Organic Fortnight in September, Roald Dahl day later that same month and National Curry Week in November.

"These events may not make national news, but they’re certainly of interest to specific advertisers and as such, those advertisers may want to consider creating ads tailored to these events," said Mr Kingston.

Also writing on the Yahoo! Search marketing blog recently, content quality analyst Noah Belson advised companies launching Father’s Day ads to highlight incentives such as free shipping in campaigns.
