Yahoo! has offered some tips on managing the transition of organic search results from its platform to Bing under the Search Alliance deal.
The company said natural listings are expected to be powered by Microsoft’s decision engine from August or September.
To prepare for the switchover, it advised brands to review their organic rankings on both Yahoo! Search and Bing to find the keywords that are most effective.
Businesses should also take a look at Microsoft’s webmaster tools and ensure that their search engine optimisation strategies are geared towards the company’s online crawler as, based on figures from comScore, its listings will be displayed for around 30 per cent of users’ queries once the transition is complete.
In other news, Yahoo! said the Search Alliance will implement new editorial guidelines in the US and Canada governing the type of content that will be permitted for pay per click marketing delivered by adCenter.
The rules will outlaw keywords and ads for online sales of hard liquor, dating sites marketed as offering affairs, "educational" gambling portals and militia ordnance.
They will also place restrictions on content relating to surveillance equipment, some types of knives, competitions and fundraising aimed at users.
