Internet marketing service providers may like to consider how best to optimise their websites for mobile customers after it was revealed that m-commerce saw its traffic double over the Christmas period.
According to Econsultancy's Graham Charlton, the use of mobile phones for shopping went up by 100 per cent between December 24th and 27th, with Boxing Day the busiest time.
People used their smartphones to check prices, look for local stores and make purchases in order to take advantage of sales, he stated, citing statistics from Usablenet and Adfonic.
Mr Charlton noted that these figures demonstrate the importance of having a mobile presence, either through an app or a specially designed site, suggesting elements such as store finders and contact details are essential for these services.
Growth in the mobile sector was also recently predicted by Google's Robert Hamilton, as he told the Guardian that there would be more mobile internet users than desktop users by 2014.
