Luke Duffy joined ClickThrough Marketing in early 2016. We caught up with our sporty new team member to find out more about his new-found love of sales, his previous life working in social media, and changing places with Dwayne Johnson, AKA The Rock!

What does your role at ClickThrough involve?

You don’t get a second chance at a first impression so I try to keep that in my mind at all times in my role. It’s my job to identify digital marketing opportunities with some of the UK’s biggest brands and turn those opportunities into potential deals. However, it’s not your typical cold-call hard selling approach; we prefer to provide genuinely useful insights around the digital performance of said companies to ensure that on every bit of correspondence between us and them, they’ve got some useful information/suggestions that can be utilised immediately. Working directly with Phil, our CEO and Founder, we’ve got a great team in place to ensure we have a very strong process to convince prospects we’re the right fit for them.

What’s your background?

My background is actually content marketing – specifically social media. However, having worked within social media customer service and marketing for nearly five years, I wanted a new challenge and I think I’ve found it in sales. I really liked the creative side of social, which is why I enjoyed working in that field for so long. However, I’m a naturally competitive person so sales gives me the buzz that I’ve longed for!

What do you most enjoy about your role at ClickThrough?

It sounds cliché but I think the best thing about ClickThrough is the team that you’re surrounded by day in, day out. Everyone works towards the same goals and always gives 100%. Seeing everyone consistently working hard inspires you to do the same and definitely gives you a sense of pride about your job. I also love the competitive edge – we’re only a small sales team but the competition drives us through every day – plus if you’re a really good performer one week you get to leave early on the Friday!

What do you work toward in your free time?

I’m a bit of a gym addict in my spare time and like to push my body to its limits – it’s almost like project managing yourself; eat this at x time, train this muscle group today etc. So I work toward being as fit as possible to hopefully live a long healthy life! Aside from that, I like to always try new things, especially if it’s a sport, so I suppose I’m always looking to broaden my skillset!

If you hadn’t joined ClickThrough what other career path might you have considered?

I’ve naturally always gravitated towards personal training but I’m not sure I could put up with the lazy clients you’d come across. I could be a shouty personal trainer, but then I’d feel bad if I upset someone so it’s probably best I’m at ClickThrough to be honest! When I was younger I always wanted to be a marine biologist, which seems like a strange choice looking back – I wasn’t great at science and the deep parts of the ocean unnerve me. Perhaps I could sell marine biology equipment in a future role to have the best of both worlds?

Finally, if you could trade places with any other person for a week, dead or living, fictional or real, who would it be?

Dwayne (The Rock) Johnson – I mean come on, it’s The Rock!
