Increased importance is being applied to the blogging network following a deal that could see blogs copyrighted, according to BizReport.
The deal, which involves online aggregator Newstex and the Copyright Clearance Center, is expected to have a significant effect on the online advertising industry and according to some could change the way people look at blogging.
Commenting on the deal, Bill Burger, the Copyright Clearance Center’s vice president of marketing, said: "Blogs have become critical sources of information for CCC’s customers- those decision makers who need to share up-to-date news and insights with colleagues."
He said that this would now be utilised and that it would now be easier to "use blog content in a host of uses beyond simple linking".
It is thought that initially blogs that handle issues such as news, business, technology and law could be targeted.
